Zee5 HiPi a ‘Made in India’ short video platform to be launched before 15 July amid the TikTok ban
As you all know the Indian Government has banned 59 Chinese apps that include TikTok, UC browser, and Hulu for privacy concerns and as a rise of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat. We also reported how TikTok dipped as Indian rival ‘Chingari’ debuted with 2.5 million downloads in a week. Chingari has been developed by a Chhattisgarh-based developer and is billed as the Indian version of TikTok, which is popular in the world of digital entertainment.
Zee5 has announced the launch of HiPi – a ‘Made in India’ short video platform that aims to fill the gap. The new platform, which is touted as a “made for an Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India), is aimed at content creators in India. The company has confirmed that the new platform will be launched before July 15. The Zee5 app will offer access to the HiPi platform upon its launch
ZEE5 is an Indian video-on-demand service run by Essel Group via its subsidiary Zee Entertainment Enterprises. It was launched in India on 14 February 2018 with content in 12 languages. ZEE5 mobile app is available on Web, Android, iOS, Smart TVs, among other devices.
“The name HiPi comes from the vision of a youthful and carefree planet where everyone can express themselves with freedom and confidence,” the company said in a press note.
Zee5 also has 100 million downloads on the Google Play Store which also provide a push to HiPi in the beginning. However, there are other Indian alternatives for TikTok too, Roposo has crossed 50 million downloads, Chingari crossed 5 million downloads and Mitron has crossed more than 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store.
