Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 fork based on Android 11 released for Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro, other smartphones to follow


Xiaomi releases MIUI 12 based on Android 11 for its Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro Android smartphones, 14 more smartphones including Mi 8, Mi 9 SE, Redmi Note 7/8 Pro to receive it by end of September

Google today released its latest Android 11 operating system for its Pixel brand of Android smartphones. Though Google Pixel will be the first Android smartphone to receive Android 11, Google has promised that Android 11 will reach to almost all Android OEMs by the end of 2020.

In a blog post Google said more Android smartphone manufacturers will be “launching and upgrading devices over the coming months.” As of today, except for Pixel 1, all Google Pixel Android smartphones are receiving the Android 11 OTA update.

Now the stage is set for a race among all non-Google Android smartphone makers to upgrade their own skins with Android 11 and Xiaomi seems to the first one of the block. In fact, along with Google’s Android 11 release, Xiaomi has already announced the first batch of Xiaomi smartphones to receive the MIUI 12 with upgraded Android 11.

Xiaomi’s MIUI’s official account has tweeted that it’s Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro will receive the Android 11 update. As seen in the image, MIUI 12 with Android 11 is available for both Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro but the countries where it will be available are not specified.

Xiaomi is already running its very own beta testing program for the MIUI 12 based on Android 11 and if you own Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, or Poco F2 Pro,  you can sign up for its MIUI 12 Android 11 beta program until September 9th.

There are 13 smartphones in the second batch of Xiaomi smartphones to receive MIUI 12 with Android 11 according to a Weibo post. According to the listing, following Xiaomi Android smartphones would receive the MIUI 12 based on Android 11 by end of September/early October.

And by the end of October 2020, the third batch of Xiaomi smartphones would receive the MIUI 12 based on Android 11 and they are:

  • – Redmi 8A
  • – Redmi 7

Android 11 very unique new features like a new conversations section in the notification shade, one-time permission for apps, device controls in the power button menu, and a lot more. However, a lot of features like the one time App permission are already available in OnePlus Oxygen OS and Oppo ColorOS forks of Android 10
