The Caller ID app ‘Truecaller’ Data Breached and over 47.5 million user records are sold on Dard Web
The Caller ID app Truecaller can manage all your calls and messages quickly, by filtering out telemarketers and other unwanted disturbances. With a community-based spam list updated by millions of users worldwide, Truecaller is the only app you need to make your communication safe and efficient. Truecaller is the world’s best Caller ID and spam blocking app – 50 crore downloads worldwide.
Truecaller data was spotted being sold on the dark web with having records of over 47.5 million Indian users. The researchers from Cyble found that data is said to be from the 2019 records of Truecaller. They also said the data sold on the dark web was categorized as a state, cities, telecom carriers, and personal data.
According to the researchers, the data with 47.5 million user records were sold for $1000(Rs 75,000 approx).” We were also taken off by surprise with such a low price point (in our opinion)”, said Cyble.

According to the images and samples provided by the hackers it shows that the data breached by them contains information such as Phone Number, Carrier, Name, Gender, City, Email, Facebook ID, and others.

It’s easy for bad actors to compile multiple phone number databases and put a Truecaller stamp on it. By doing that, it lends some credibility to the data and makes it easier for them to sell. We urge the public and users not to fall prey to such bad actors whose primary motive is to swindle the people of their money
said Truecaller spokesperson said.
However, Truecaller had fixed a security flaw back in 2019 that allowed hackers to access user data. If you use Truecaller it is recommended that to use the latest version of the app and also change all the social and other accounts passwords to be at a safer side.
