Apple yesterday released the iOS 14 update for all supported iPhones and iPadOS for all supported iPads. The iOS 14/iPadOS 14 is a massive update that brings lots of new features to the iPhone and iPad. The most impressive change is the addition of widgets on the home screen.

The Android smartphone like widgets allows iPhone and iPad users to see the information without having to launch the app. For example, the weather widget shows the current temperature and the forecast right on the home screen, so theoretically, you no longer have to launch the dedicated app to see all the details.

At the time of writing this article, millions of iPhone and iPad users are updating to the iOS 14/iPadOS 14. However, many iPhone and iPad users have reported that their smartphones get stuck on the Preparing Update screen.

Many forums and websites are filled with threads and comments of iPhone and iPad users being able to download the iOS 14/iPadOS 14 but their iPhone/iPad seems to get stuck at the Preparing Update screen window while installing the update over the air. The users report that they are unable to proceed further with the update after their iPhone/iPad gets to this particular update stage.

Don’t worry, you can fix this issue. Here is how to fix your iPhone or iPad getting stuck on the iOS 14/iPadOS 14 Preparing Update window.

Step 1. Launch the Settings app.

Step 2. Tap on General.

Step 3. Open up iPhone / iPad Storage.

Step 5. Tap on Delete Update. This will delete the iOS 14 already downloaded by you.

Step 6. Reboot your iPhone or iPad.

Step 7. Once booted back up, go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Step 8. Tap on Download and Install. The update will go through smoothly.
