Sony launches a new ‘Imaging Edge Webcam’ app that enables 35 of its Cameras to work as webcams during video calls
Have a desktop but no webcam for video calls? No problem popular electronic giant Sony has released a new Desktop application called ‘Imaging Edge Webcam’. The new application from the company allows you to easily transform your Sony digital camera into a high-quality webcam by simply connecting it to a PC via USB, without paying a penny.
Using the new ‘Imaging Edge Webcam’ app you can also live stream and video conference in one easy step while also taking full advantage of Sony’s advanced imaging technology such as autofocus, high-resolution picture quality, and additional unique features of each compatible camera.
Other companies like Panasonic and Olympus have already launched similar software to enable turning their mirrorless cameras into webcams. The new software launched by Sony is compatible with several recent Sony DSLRs and mirrorless models. As the reports say, the app currently works only on Windows 10 PC or laptops.
Sony has enabled 35 of its camera’s that are compatible with this software, the list includes Alpha 9 II, Alpha 9, Alpha 7R IV, Alpha 7R III, Alpha 7R II, Alpha 7S III, Alpha 7S II, Alpha 7S, Alpha 7 III, Alpha 7 II, Alpha 6600, Alpha 6400, Alpha 6100, Alpha 5100, RX100 VII, RX100 VI, RX0 II, RX0, vlog camera ZV-1, and more. For using your Sony cameras as a webcam for your live stream or video conference, download the ‘Imaging Edge Webcam’ app on to your Windows 10 PC or laptop and install the software.
How to use ‘Imaging Edge Webcam’ app for making Sony cameras work as a webcam?
- On the camera, perform the following setting
- Connect the camera and computer using the supplied USB cable(Before proceeding to step 3 below, first set the camera to (Auto Mode))
- Launch the live distribution/web conferencing service on your personal computer.
- Change the appropriate setting in the live distribution/web conferencing service to switch the camera to be used from the PC’s built-in camera to the Sony camera.
