In future, even mid-range Android smartphones could sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 SoC thanks to the LITE version
Snapdragon SoC chips maker Qualcomm is readying up for the next set of chip releases. According to the serial leaker, Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm multiple variants of its next flagship chipset. What makes this interesting is that even mid-range Android smartphones could have the top flagship Snapdragon 875 SoC on their devices, albeit the ‘Lite’ version.
Digital Chat Station revealed that in a virtual meet that happened last week, the Opp executives were discussing certain “Lite” variants of the upcoming Snapdragon processor. The leaker says that those same executives may have also mentioned the Snapdragon 860.
The tweet mentions two Oppo executives, Liu Bo, Li Zi Gui, and OnePlus CEO Liu Zuohu (Pete Lau) were present at the virtual meet. From the tweet, it can be assumed that the virtual meeting was held by China’s BBK Electronics which owns both OnePlus and Oppo.
The System on a Chip (SoC) often makes a large part of the smartphone cost. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC is rated the best and feature in all high-range smartphones like Google, Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, and OnePlus. However, mid-range buyers are left with no choice but to either buy smartphones with lower version Snapdragon chips or MediaTek chips. Qualcomm’s decision to release the Lite version of its flagship SoC will make a huge difference to these buyers.
