According to Bleeping Computer, it was found that about 270 million records from the Wattpad database were allegedly stolen and being sold for about 10 BTC which is about $100,000. Wattpad is immensely popular and is ranked as the 150th most visited site worldwide.
As some anonymous tip provided to the BleepingComputer it was found that this database was being sold by Shiny Hunters, a group known for selling company databases acquired in data breaches.
Bleeping computer worked on some sample records of this stolen database and found that the breach included details like usernames, names, hashed passwords, email addresses, and general geographic location.
We continue to investigate the information you’ve shared and its potential origins. At this time we’ve enlisted external security consultants to aid our investigation. Kiel Hume, Director of PR & Communications at Wattpad, said Bleeping Computer
While the database was previously being sold for the high price of $100,000, the database is now being offered for free and claims to contain 271 million users.
