OnePlus 8 Pro camera ranks 10th on DxOMark worse than Oppo Find X2 Pro but better than iPhone SE and Samsung Galaxy S20

This is one news that OnePlus fanbois and OnePlus 8 Pro users will hate for a long time. Their favorite OnePlus 8 Pro camera has been ranked at 10th Place with 119 points by DxOMark camera ratings. The good news is that OnePlus 8 Pro camera has been ranked ahead of iPhones and Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S20 Plus. The bad news is that the OnePlus Pro 8 camera is worse than Oppo Find X2 Pro and only made it to the 10th place thanks to its exposure rating of 97.

For the uninitiated, the DxOMark rankings have the most in-depth camera tests, putting smartphone cameras through a variety of testing scenarios. Today, DxOMark put OnePlus 8 Pro camera through the rigmarole and issued its findings.

OnePlus 8 Pro camera scored 119 points, landing it in tenth place and knocking the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus out of the top ten. The OnePlus 8 Pro also beat the latest iPhone models but it is behind Oppo Find X2 Pro Huawei Mate 30 Pro and Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro Premium (as well as the S20 Ultra and Huawei P40 Pro). In fact, the Oppo Find X2 Pro which ranked 3rd in the DxOMark camera test. Do remember that Oppo Find X2 Pro has the same image sensor as OnePlus 8 Pro— Sony IMX689.

DxOMark awarded a photo score of 126 points to the phone, praising the device’s detail, accurate exposure, and low level of noise. It also praised the “fast and reliable” autofocus system, the color and detail when using the ultra-wide camera, and picture quality when using the flash.

Apart from that, OnePlus 8 Pro managed to score an overall 103 in the video section, which is a mere two points less than the best camera smartphone, Huawei’s P40 Pro. DxOMark felt that zoom was an area of improvement for the OnePlus 8 Pro, saying its zoom capabilities didn’t challenge top performers in this regard.

OnePlus 8 Pro has been in the news for its “see-through camera feature“, which makes it stand out from other smartphones. The feature was disabled in the OxygenOS 10.5.9 OTA update but the company is going ahead with the launch of OnePlus 8 Pro in India including this feature.

The OnePlus 8 Pro does excel for video, however, securing new top scores for video exposure and color and a top five overall video ranking in our database. Put all that together and the OnePlus 8 Pro is an excellent choice for serious smartphone photographers.
