Microsoft releases July 2020 Firmware and drivers pack for Surface Laptop and Laptop 2, fixes Touch & Pen issue affecting devices running on Windows 1903 or higher

After issuing the July 2020 cumulative updates for Windows 10 run PC/laptops, Microsoft has now released the July 2020 cumulative firmware and drivers pack for Surface Laptop and Laptop 2 devices, The July 2020 cumulative firmware update make the Surface Laptop and Laptop 2 compatible with Windows 10 May 2020 v2004 run PC/laptops/servers.

What’s new with Surface Laptop July 2020 firmware and drivers pack?

The July 2020 firmware brings Surface Extension to Surface Laptop and Laptop 2. Surface Extension resolves Touch & Pen issues many users faced after updating to Windows1903 or higher version. The new firmware also improves Surface Dock 2 reliability during Wake On LAN with the new Surface Dock v2.49.139.0 firmware update, as well as the Surface Integration Service Device v6.83.139.0 update. The new firmware also brings Surface Integration Service Device – System that Improves Surface Dock 2 reliability during authentication scenarios.

Microsoft says that the firmware will also ensure increased stability in Surface Laptop and Laptop 2 devices. You can update your firmware either automatically through Microsoft’s Windows Update service or manually by downloading and installing the update packages which are given below

To automatically download the firmware/drivers pack, use Microsoft’s Windows Update service follow this path:

  1. Select Start  > Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update .
  2. Select Check for updates. If updates are available, they will install automatically. You may need to restart your Surface after the updates have installed.

Do remember that Microsoft is releasing the July 2020 firmware/drivers pack update in a phased manner so it might not be available for you right now. However, be assured that all Surface devices will get this update at some point.
