Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos sets a new record for the world’s richest person after getting worth nearly $172 billion

We are back with another milestone achieved by the Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos as he is now worth nearly $172 billion, a new record for the world’s richest person, according to Bloomberg Billionaire Index. Jeff Bezos has added nearly $59 Billion to its net worth in the last three months as we reported in April about the Amazon CEO being worth $113 Billion.

Imagine owning $100 billion (Rs.75,88,00,00,000.00) of world wealth and living to enjoy it. When a poor man in Africa hardly earns a single dollar a day, Amazon’s CEO, Jeff Bezos is minting the GDP of a whole country. Much of Bezos’ wealth is tied to Amazon. He owns roughly 57 million shares or 12% of the company. And its stock has soared 56% year to date.

Bezos this week surpassed the previous wealth record that he reached prior to his divorce from his ex-wife MacKenzie. Last year, the couple divorced after 25 years of marriage. She received 25 percent of the couple’s Amazon stock, which is roughly a 4 percent stake in the company.

Technology stocks led Monday’s declines, with the Nasdaq Composite Index sliding to its lowest since April. Shares of Amazon tumbled 6.3 percent, on top of Friday’s 7.8 percent drop, leaving Bezos with USD 128.1 billion, down from a peak of USD 167.7 billion early last month.

The USD 8.2 billion hits he took Monday was the biggest by far on the Bloomberg ranking of the world’s 500 richest people. Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim’s USD 2.5 billion drops were the day’s second-largest. Gates, the Microsoft Corp. co-founder, lost USD 558.3 million and is now worth USD 92.8 billion.
