Tesla Motors creating a beast neural network computer ‘Dojo’ to process a vast amount of videos; will help to usher in full self-driving functionality in Tesla cars by the end of the year
Tesla Motors is creating a literal beast. Making the announcement on Twitter, Tesla Motors founder, and CEO, Elon Musk says that the electric car maker is developing a Neural Network training computer called “Dojo” that will be a “beast.”
Tesla is developing a NN training computer called Dojo to process truly vast amounts of video data. It’s a beast! Please consider joining our AI or computer/chip teams if this sounds interesting.

Dojo can process vast amounts of video data and will be helpful in ushering full self-driving functionality in future Tesla cars according to Musk. A follower asked the CEO what will be the next big public release that shows a massive leap in Autopilot Full-Self Driving (FSD). Musk responded that the FSD improvement will come as a “quantum leap.”
The FSD improvement will come as a quantum leap, because it’s a fundamental architectural rewrite, not an incremental tweak. I drive the bleeding edge alpha build in my car personally. Almost at zero interventions between home & work. Limited public release in 6 to 10 weeks.

Musk and Tesla say that the Dojo NN computer will enable the company to fully integrate the FSD in their electric cars by the end of the year. Musk had already revealed that Tesla Motors was working on advancing its artificial intelligence structure in order to improve the Autopilot features’ capabilities during the Q2 2020 Earnings call.
At the analysts’ meeting, Musk had stated that “Well, the actual major milestone that’s happening right now is really a transition of the autonomy system of the cars, from thinking about things in — like two-and-a-half feet. It’s like think — things like isolated pictures and doing image recognition on pictures that are harshly correlated in time but not very well and transitioning them to kind of a 4D, which is video essentially”
He had added that Tesla Motors could achieve full self-driving functionality will be ready by the end of the year.
Dojo Neural Network training computer can interpret things like traffic lights, stops, turns, and changes in acceleration in video settings with greater stability. Musk’s second tweet reveals that he is currently using the alpha version of FSD in his car and Tesla will be making public a limited release of the software in 6 to 10 weeks.
