Cheaper OnePlus Z is coming in July with in-display fingerprint sensor and punch hole camera

After expensive OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus to launch cheaper OnePlus Z in July priced at $399 (Rs.30,000) to compete with iPhone SE 2020

April saw two launches –OnePlus launched OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro and Apple launched it’s iPhone SE 2020.  OnePlus 8 Pro is the costliest smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer to date $1000 (Rs.75,000). Even the basic version of OnePlus 8 is priced at $550 (Rs.41,999).  A week later Apple launched its cheapest smartphone yet, iPhone SE 2020 priced at $399 (Rs.31,000).

OnePlus which came to prominence by promising Android smartphones of superior specifications at relatively cheaper rates was panned by fans and critics alike for making the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro so dear. Now OnePlus is preparing to placate its band of followers with a cheaper trimmed down version of OnePlus 8 Pro called OnePlus Z.

The new OnePlus Z which will be a toned-down version of OnePlus 8 with cost $399 (Rs.30,000) and will be released in July 2020. This was confirmed by a Twitter user, Max J suggesting that the OnePlus Z will likely debut in July 2020.

A tech website, TrueTech also confirmed that OnePlus Z is indeed coming in July 2020. Here is what the new cheaper OnePlus Z will look and feel like.

The OnePlus Z is OnePlus’ answer to its fans and critics and to the rival Apple which has launched iPhone SE 2020 at $399. The iPhone SE 2020 is already garnering rave reviews for passing all stress tests thereby suggesting the Apple has not compromised the structural durability for the price.

The OnePlus Z will have a 6.4-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with a 90 Hz refresh rate. Remember, the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro have a 120 Hz refresh rate. The OnePlus Z will come with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. OnePlus has decided to let go of Snapdragon SoCs it usually has on OnePlus smartphones for the new MediaTek Dimensity 1000 SoC with 5G support. Remember OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are powered by Snapdragon SoCs.

The OnePlus Z will run on 8GB RAM and have two internal memory variants of  128GB and 256GB. The bad news is that the OnePlus Z will not expandable memory slot.

OnePlus Z will ship with Android 10.5 OS with Oxygen OS custom skin on top. As for the camera, the OnePlus Z will have the usual 4 camera setup. The back shooter slot comprising of 48MP primary sensor, a 16MP secondary lens, and a 12MP sensor. It will powered by a massive 4,000 mAh battery with 30W Warp fast-charging support.

OnePlus Z will also have the in-display fingerprint sensor and a punch-hole camera on the top-center of the display. For connectivity, OnePlus Z will have 5G, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and USB Type-C port.

This smartphone will be priced at par with iPhone SE 2020 at $399 (Rs.31,000) and will be released in July 2020. The earlier releases from OnePlus – the OnePlus 8 series is expected to go on its first sale on 11 May in India. OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are available for pre-booking on Amazon.
