Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) Certification for cloud native professionals

Linux Foundation and Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) announce a new certification Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) for cloud-native professionals

The Linux Foundation has tied up with Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) to announce a certification in the field of cloud native computing. The new certification is called the Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS) and designed specifically for cloud native professionals and will have a performance-based certification exam.

“The Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist exam will help grow the pool of qualified talent, while also providing employers with confidence that their teams are able to handle the challenges of securing these technologies,” says Clyde Seepersad, SVP, and general manager of training & certification at The Linux Foundation.

According to Linux Foundation and CNCF, the CKS certification and the enrollment will being in November 2020. The exam syllabus for CKS will focus on cloud computing, securing container-based cloud applications, and Kubernetes platforms. It will cover all the aspects of native-cloud like building, deployment, and runtime. CKS is billed as the top tier certification in native cloud computing because candidates for CKS must have passed the Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) exam before sitting for the CKS.

The certification exam will test domains and competencies including:

  • Cluster setup
  • Cluster hardening
  • System hardening
  • Minimize microservice vulnerabilities
  • Supply chain security
  • Monitoring, logging, and runtime security

Linux Foundation says that the new CKS certification is being developed to enable cloud native professionals to demonstrate their security skills to current and potential employers. The CKS exam will be available for enrollment in November 2020 and will cost $499.00 for training. More information about the exam and topics to be covered in it is available here. Those who intend to pursue the CKS but do not already hold a CKA certification may learn more about that exam here.
