Hacktivist Group Anonymous hack and bring down Minneapolis Police Department Website to avenge the death of George Floyd

The Anonymous have risen again. After lying low for a while, the hacktivist group, Anonymous today made a dramatic comeback by hacking and bringing down the Minneapolis Police Department website to avenge the death of George Floyd.

For those who are not tuned into American news, George Floyd, an African-American was killed in custody when on-duty police officer Derek Chauvin applied a choke-hold on him. The custodial killing of George Floyd has sparked riots in the whole of America since yesterday. The protests and arson today spread to cities large and small, including Ferguson, Mo., which was rocked by violent protests in 2014 after a white police officer shot and killed a young black man, Michael Brown.

Anonymous hacktivist group which is often at the forefront of such protests has been lying low for a while. Today they announced that they have hacked and taken down the Minneapolis Police Department website at www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/.

At the time of writing this article, the Minneapolis PD website is still down. Anonymous has also released a statement through Twitter.

Officers who kill people and commit other crimes need to be held accountable just like the rest of us. Otherwise, they will believe that they have a license to do whatever they want. You will claim that this is just the work of a few bad apples but what if the officers who stand by and do nothing while they commit offenses against people they encounter and police officers like yours who refuse to prosecute these criminals. as they would one of the citizens they were sworn to protect.

People have had enough of this corruption and violence from an organization that promises to keep them safe. After the events of the past few years, many people are beginning to learn that you are not here to save us but rather you are here to oppress us and carry out the will of the criminal ruling class. You are here to keep order for the people in control, not to provide safety for the people who are controlled. In fact, you are the very mechanism that elites use to continue their global system of oppression.

The world is starting to wake up to this and they are becoming increasingly angry every time they see blood needlessly spilled without consequence. These officers must face criminal charges and officer Chauvin especially should face murder charges. Unfortunately, we do not trust your corrupt organization to carry out justice so will be exposing your many crimes to the world. We are legion. Expect us.

While Anonymous directly didn’t claim responsibility for taking down the website, the group did release their demands. Anonymous is a band of hackers without any central leadership so it is possible that one of their North American Anonymous colleagues may have taken the Minneapolis PD website down.

Anonymous has said that they want Derek Chauvin, the white police officer, to be charged for the death of George Floyd. They have also warned that they have proof of corruption in Minneapolis PD and would start leaking the information if Chauvin is not arrested.

Chauvin has already been charged with the murder of George Floyd but the protests are continuing in America.
