You can now pre-order the $150 PinePhone Community Edition With Manjaro Linux and ARM Cortex A-53 or $200 PinePhone Community Edition: Manjaro With Convergence Package

The Linux smartphone maker, Pine64 had announced the 5.95″ PinePhone “Community Edition” variants running on Manjaro Linux and powered by ARM Cortex A-53 chip last month. Today, Pine64 has announced the two variants of Manjaro OS-powered Community Edition Linux smartphones are up for pre-order.

What’s different with the PinePhone Manjaro Community Edition Linux smartphone?

The Pine64 Community Editions are extremely popular and the PinePhone Manjaro CE is the third iteration in the series. Earlier Pine64 had released PinePhone with Ubuntu Touch and PinePhone with postmarketOS community editions.

Like earlier community editions, PinePhone Manjaro Community Edition comes in two hardware variants: Regular and Convergence Package though both have the same PCB (Printed Circuit Board) version 1.2. The regular PinePhone Community Edition With Manjaro Linux is priced at $150 and is powered by an Allwinner A64 64-bit quad-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A-53 processor and MALI-400MP2 GPU. It has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of eMMC with a microSD card expansion slot. It has a 5MP rear shooter with an LED flash and a 2MP front camera for selfies.

While the $200 PinePhone Community Edition Convergence Package comes with almost the same features except for the 3GB RAM and 32GB of eMMC and comes bundled with a USB-C dock.

Both PinePhones run on the Arch-based Manjaro ARM rolling distribution. The added advantage of PinePhone running on Manjaro OS is that it supports nearly all of PINE64 SBCs (Single-board computers) and devices including PinePhone, PineTab, and Pinebook Pro.

Both devices have a standard 30-day warranty and come with a dead pixel warning. Pine64 also warns that since PinePhone Manjaro Community addition runs on an Alpha build of Manjaro OS it is still a work in progress hence many functions may not be available on these smartphones. However, PinePhone does allow core functions such as telephone calls, SMS messages, LTE, GPS, GPU acceleration, etc. The company will be donating $10 from every PinePhone CE sold to the Manjaro development community.

If you are interested, you can visit Pine64’s PinePhone Community Edition website and pre-order the smartphone.
